Olympic Fever: catch it?...anybody?

A few things are blatantly obvious while watching the winter olympics. First, when the hype overshadows the event itself, don't be surprised when people complain. Cases in point, the U.S. ski team hyped itself as "the best ever" before the first run. The results have been less than stellar. From here on out, I'm going to refer to showing up to work hungover and then mailing it in (then maybe spraining an ankle) as "Pulling a Bode" only because "Miller Time" isn't quite descriptive enough. Remember the shoe-peddling scheme "Dan and Dave", well it seems that history is repeating itself. But that's okay because according to him, fame is a bummer, and the Olympics aren't just about medals. Last time around, the media hype monster was Apollo Ono, but he actually won a medal (under protest). Both the American and Canadian hockey teams were eliminated. Hopefully Janet took the under. Maybe going into these competitions with glorified all-star teams isn't the best thing to do (see also: olympic basketball). Finally, skating. I figured that the hyper-competitive type with notoriously overbearing parents were confined to figure skating. Apparently the histrionics have embedded themselves in speed skating as well. And what's with the story of Davis' s mom threatening to sue an announcer if she uses his name? It's a little "no more wire hangers" if you ask me (if I'm threatened with a lawsuit, does that mean someone other than me is reading this crap?)
